The ESG Manager will manage critical relationships and work closely with a network of cross-functional partners to drive Vita Coco’s ESG Strategy. The role will own, create, and track Vita Coco’s progress against its impact goals and help the company build a rigorous infrastructure in reporting and environmental management. The role will also work with a global network of nonprofit organizations focused on The Vita Coco Project® -- the Company’s social and environmental impact program based in its farming communities. The ESG manager will work with a wide array of stakeholders and will report to the Social Impact & Sustainability Program Director, based out of our NYC HQ.

This role is based out of our NYC HQ  reporting to the  Social Impact & Sustainability Program Director. The role requires up to 10% travel. We currently have a 2-to 3 day-per-week in-office requirement, to work from our Manhattan office.

Responsibilities:

ESG Project Management & Reporting

  • Responsible for B Corp re-certification and working with internal stakeholders to develop a governance infrastructure to improve B Impact score.
  • Develop the environmental reporting framework for Vita Coco’s footprint across co-manufacturing and logistics partners, especially for energy and water usage, carbon accounting, and circularity of packaging.
  • Work closely with operations and technical services teams to manage capital projects for environmental and social initiatives in collaboration with co-manufacturing partners, including renewable energy, water conservation, and waste reduction projects.
  • Manage and create Vita Coco’s Annual Impact Report and ESG Scorecard as well as various investor surveys including CDP and Sustainalytics.

Partnerships & Purpose Lead Collaborations

  • Own the partnerships between international and domestic nonprofit organizations focused on Vita Coco’s ESG strategy pillars—Protecting Natural Resources, Building Thriving Communities, and Championing Health & Wellness.
  • Manage the Vita Coco Project® partnership network and become the subject matter expert on regenerative agriculture, biodiversity, and social determinants of health for farming communities across the globe.
  • Manage product donations and charitable contributions to partners aligned to Vita Coco’s ESG strategy.
  • Support in the rollout of Vita Coco’s Seedlings for Sustainability program to distribute 10 million seedlings and trees globally by 2030.
  • Work closely with Marketing & Sales functions to develop a strong storytelling narrative for ESG in line with Vita Coco’s tone of voice.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Champion

  • Partner closely with the HR team on all things DEI related as well as project and community managing Vita Coco’s affinity groups—Culture & Belonging communities.
  • Support in the tracking and reporting of Vita Coco representation data.
  • Manage volunteering events and partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years of Environmental Sustainability experience, with experience in carbon accounting and reporting preferred.
  • Knowledge of CPG industry and beverage experience preferred.
  • Experience managing others – this role will manage a Program Analyst and interns.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to speak to different stakeholders with varying degrees of sustainability and social impact understanding.
  • Understanding of best-in-class ESG strategies and practices.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task within a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for the environmental impacts of supply chains, agricultural communities, and key social issues in society.
  • Must exhibit a willingness to take initiative and perform duties with limited direction.
  • Extremely detail-oriented with strong time-management, decision-making, and prioritization skills.

At The Vita Coco Company, compensation decisions are dependent upon a variety of factors, which may include, but are not limited to: skill set, experience, education, training, licensure and certifications, knowledge and abilities of the applicant, alignment with market data, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current pay range for this position is $100,000-$115,000. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at 10% of base salary. This range may vary for positions that will be performed outside of California, Colorado, Nevada, New York City, Westchester County, NY, Rhode Island, or Washington.
