The Vita Coco Company is seeking a Tax Director to oversee the tax function, including domestic and foreign tax compliance, planning, reporting, strategy, risk management, and will report directly to the Vice President, Global Accounting & Controls based in our NYC HQ Office.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the company's income, franchise, business, property, sales and use, international taxes, and other local taxes, as well as our business licenses in all areas we do business.
  • Manage domestic and foreign income tax for the company and its subsidiaries, inclusive of compliance, returns, and estimated payments.
  • Ensure indirect tax compliance for the US and Canada, covering registrations, remittances, and nexus analysis, while overseeing business registrations.
  • Oversee the annual and quarterly tax provision process, inclusive of tax footnote preparation
  • Establish processes and procedures to ensure all taxes are accounted for and that the financial statements correctly present the impact of both non-income and income taxes, inclusive of the review of balance sheet reconciliations
  • Maintain relationships and review workpapers of third party consultants and tax advisors, making key decisions with respect to professional services needed, all with an eye towards maximizing value and reducing costs
  • Responding to federal, state and local tax notices and managing federal, state and local tax audits and examinations.
  • Develop and maintain various tax analytics to provide insight into future tax and compliance projections for use in budgeting, strategy, and cash flow planning
  • Providing tax advice on key business & corporate initiatives
  • Advise on proper structure of legal entities and intercompany activity, while overseeing compliance with transfer pricing
  • Monitor and analyze proposed and newly enacted tax legislation, regulations, rulings, court cases, etc., determining the impact of exposure with the goal of developing strategies to respond in each area

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA and/or MST
  • Big 4 accounting experience a plus
  • 10+ years relevant tax experience, in public accounting or industry
  • Significant practical experience in US tax, US international tax and US Tax Reform matters. Some familiarity with payroll taxes.
  • Ability to identify, research and propose resolutions on tax issues
  • Must possess strong organizational and leadership skills, including ability to prioritize
  • Detailed oriented, with proven ability to drive projects to fruition
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to problem solve
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Management of external providers
  • Ability to develop, as well as implement, a strategic vision
